A 16-player squad for the five-match T20 Series against the West Indies in Jamaica and St. Kitt's next month was revealed today by Cricket Australia's National Selection Panel (NSP). Mitch Owen was recognised for his outstanding season with the Hobart Hurricanes in the most recent Big Bash League, while Mitchell Marsh returns to the Australian colours to head the side.

Australia's explosive batter Mitchell Owen received his maiden call-up, while Mitchell Marsh will skipper the team when he returns to the T20 squad announced on Wednesday for a five-match series in the West Indies. After being rested for Australia's most recent Twenty20 series against Pakistan in November, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is back, and left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann is included in the team for the first time. Marsh has recovered from a lower back ailment that prevented him from competing in the Champions Trophy earlier this year, and he missed the Pakistan series.

Mitchell Marsh Back in Australia's XI:

Owen was the leading scorer in the BBL during a season that included 108 off 42 deliveries in the final, while Marsh is coming off a scorching IPL tournament with 627 runs for the Lucknow Super Giants, including his first century. Conversely, Cooper Connolly and Cameron Green make their injury-recovery comebacks. After being managed for the final Twenty20 series against Pakistan prior to the Test season, Josh Hazlewood also returns to the team.

The 16-man roster for the series next month did not include Travis Head, Mitchell Starc, or Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia in both Test and 50-over cricket. After three Test matches against the West Indies starting on June 25, they will head back to Australia. Jake Fraser-McGurk, a young hitter, was dropped, but 23-year-old Owen received his first call-up following a season in the Big Bash League in which he was the top run scorer and scored an unforgettable 108 off 42 balls in the final. As they prepare for the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka next year, Australia has won 12 of their last 14 games.

Australia Squad: Tim David, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Matt Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Mitch Owen, Matthew Short, Adam Zampa, Cooper Connolly, Cooper Connolly, Sean Abbott, Mitchell Marsh (capt.), and Cooper Connolly.
