Before heading to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Mohammed Shami, who hasn't participated in any competitive cricket since the 50-over World Cup final last November, is anticipated to play two games for Bengal in the current Ranji Trophy. Mohammed Shami will play two important Ranji Trophy matches for Bengal before travelling to Australia to play for the Indian team in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, marking his comeback to professional cricket.

After his outstanding performance in the ODI World Cup, the speedster had surgery in London in February after taking 24 wickets at an average of 10.70. A swelling knee injury delayed his return to the field, despite early intentions calling for him to make a comeback during the home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. Shami's expected return to domestic cricket has been confirmed by Bengal coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla.

Mohammed Shami to make a comeback:

Talking with Indian Express Shuka said, "He is not available for this match (vs Kerala), but we are hopeful that Shami will join us for games against Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. He is a valuable player for India and the team his service will be required for the Australia series. Recently, he mentioned how keen he is about playing a couple of Ranji games for Bengal before travelling to Australia. Good outings in the Ranji Trophy will be good for him ahead of the Australia tour and will be a big boost for us our four key players are playing for India and India A."

Shami is anticipated to travel to Bengaluru to play for the Bengal team starting on November 6. They will then play Madhya Pradesh in Indore. Due to his schedule, he will not be joining the Indian team's first contingent to Australia, which is scheduled to leave Mumbai soon after the third Test match against New Zealand is over. The significance of Shami's complete fitness has already been underlined by Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.
