On Friday, Day 1 of the third Test match against New Zealand in Mumbai, former Indian cricket team coach Ravi Shastri made a humorous decision about the Rohit Sharma-led team throwing numerous no-balls. The Indian bowlers appeared to be playing well, but they gave up a number of no-balls, which infuriated Sunil Gavaskar, the great Indian batsman. When spinner Washington Sundar let up his fifth no-ball just before lunch, Shastri made a humorous comment about Gavaskar.
The saying that a spinner should never deliver no-balls because of their slower and shorter run-ups is one of the most often used in cricket. On the opening day of the final Test match against New Zealand, both Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja produced a few no-balls, frustrating many as India's spin bowlers struggled with the crease.
Shastri comments about Sunil Gavaskar:
After Sundar repeatedly stepped over the popping crease, Ravi Shastri joked on air that his co-commentator and old teammate Sunil Gavaskar, who reportedly broke a dish during his lunch on the first day, could no longer stand the overstepping. Shastri said on commentary, "Sunil Gavaskar was having lunch. He chucked the plate on the wall. Thank god he's (Gavaskar) not fielding in the slip. Washington would have been close to Washington DC."
Shastri revealed that Gavaskar was angry with Sundar’s no-ball & smashed a plate while having lunch.

On the first day of their third and final Test match against India, the spin combination of Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar bowled out New Zealand for 235, sharing nine wickets between them. After choosing to bat, the visitors were bowled out in 65.4 overs with youthful off-spinner Washington scoring 4/81 and left-arm spinner Jadeja returning with 5/65. Will Young, who hit a solid 71 from 138 balls, was first defined by Jadeja, who then dismissed Tom Blundell for a duck two balls later.
