The senior men's cricket team from India is scheduled to embark on a multi-format trip to neighbouring Bangladesh, where the bitter rivals will play three One-Day Internationals and as many Twenty20 Internationals. The Bangladesh Cricket Board recently announced the tour, which was scheduled to follow India's five-match Test series against England. However, the trip to Bangladesh might not go forward because of unanticipated geopolitical unrest in India after the Pahalgam terror attacks.
One of the main reasons India is likely to sever all connections with Bangladesh is because of the recent attacks in Pahalgam, which led India to suspend all ties with Pakistan. It is now reported that Bangladesh has backed Pakistan. The Asia Cup, which is scheduled to follow the Bangladesh series, is also being scrutinised in addition to the Bangladesh tour. Playing cricket with neighbours is one of the painful judgments that the Indian government is scheduled to make.
India Tour of Bangladesh Schedule:
Match | Date | Time (IST) | Venue |
1st ODI | August 17 | 8:30 AM | Mirpur |
2nd ODI | August 20 | 8:30 AM | Mirpur |
3rd ODI | August 23 | 8:30 AM | Chattogram |
1st T20I | August 26 | 8:30 AM | Chattogram |
2nd T20I | August 29 | 8:30 AM | Mirpur |
3rd T20I | August 31 | 8:30 AM | Mirpur |
A report quotes a source saying, "The tour is part of the calendar, but nothing is final yet. There is a bright possibility of India not touring Bangladesh for the ODIS and T20IS because of the current situation."
Although the Asia Cup's location has not yet been determined, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates are the clear favourites to host the multi-nation biannual competition in 2025. The 20-over format will be used in anticipation of the T20 World Cup in early 2026.
