When the ICC published its most recent ranking update on Wednesday, there was a noticeable shift in all categories. However, Rohit Sharma's was one of the more prominent. Following last week's update, Rohit was placed 15th in the Test batting rankings; however, he dropped nine spots this week to 24th place. Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant, teammates, also fell, dropping six and five spots, respectively, to 14th and 11th place.
In around six years, Rohit Sharma's ranking has never been lower. In December 2018, Rohit fell to 44th place after hitting 63* and 5 against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Following a number of huge hundreds versus South Africa in October 2019, he saw a dramatic rise in his ranking, rising to 17th place.
Rohit Sharma Struggles in Test Cricket:
He moved up to 17th place in the rankings after hitting two hundred in his subsequent Test match (176 and 127) against South Africa in October 2019, over a year later. Since then, after scoring 6 and 12 against England in February 2021, he has slid as far as 23rd. Rohit achieved an all-time high rating of 813 in September 2021 and remained in the top 10 of the rankings from February 27, 2021, to February 21, 2023. He was rated as the world's fifth-best Test hitter at the time.
This completes a challenging few weeks for the Indian captain, who has had a lacklustre batting performance in the home games against Bangladesh and New Zealand thus far. India suffered their first home Test series loss in 12 years after losing both games, with him scoring 2 and 52 in the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand and 0 and 8 in Pune.

In other rankings changes, South Africa's Kagiso Rabada replaced Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah as the bowlers' top-ranked player. Noman Ali, a spinner for Pakistan, also placed among the top ten bowlers.
