On Monday, January 12, during the SA20 2025–26 match between Pretoria Capitals and MI Cape Town, South African legend AB de Villiers had an uncomfortable moment when he was seen vaping on live television. Because of his exceptional batting and fielding abilities, De Villiers has inspired cricket fans all over the world. On Monday, though, he took centre stage for an unexpected reason.
When the camera panned to the stands in the eighth over of the first innings, the incident occurred. When De Villiers realised he was being filmed, he appeared shocked. De Villiers was seen vaping while seated with his wife. Watchers of the match in real time instantly became interested in the clip.

In the 22nd game of the current fourth edition of the SA20, South Africa's top Twenty20 competition, Pretoria Capitals easily overcame MI Cape Town. Sherfane Rutherford's scorching half-century helped the Capitals reach a difficult target of 186 runs after Cape Town captain Rashid Khan asked them to bat first. The Caribbean batsman continued his good patch in the competition by smashing 53 off just 27 balls. Dewald Brevis made a significant contribution as well, scoring 34 off 19 balls. Kagiso Rabada was the best bowler for Cape Town, taking two wickets in four overs while giving up just 33 runs.
The vaping video dominated social media, but there was plenty of activity on the field during the actual game. The Pretoria Capitals bounced back from early defeats by batting first. Sherfane Rutherford was instrumental with a potent 53 off 27 balls, while Dewald Brevis provided rapid momentum with a 19-ball 34. The team achieved a competitive total of 185 thanks to their efforts. Gideon Peters led the bowlers as they took three wickets for thirty-two runs. Pretoria Capitals defeated MI Cape Town by 53 runs after bowling them out for 132 with strong backing from the rest of the attack.
