SMAT 2024: Baroda Breaks Record with Highest-Ever T20 Score in History

In the current Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, Baroda made history by scoring 349 runs against Sikkim. As openers Shashwat Rawat and Abhimanyu Singh created havoc, hitting 92 runs for the first wicket, they had no intention of slowing down. Abhimanyu made 53 from just 17 deliveries, while Rawat left after scoring 43 runs off 16 deliveries. To put it mildly, they were hitting at an incredible strike rate of 268.75 and 311.76.

On Thursday, December 5, the Baroda men's cricket team, captained by Krunal Pandya, made history by scoring the greatest T20 total ever. Baroda accomplished the feat at the Emerald Heights International School Ground in Indore during the current Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 match versus Sikkim. Baroda scored 349 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs, riding on No. 3 batsman Bhanu Pania's undefeated 134-run innings off 51 balls.

He was merciless in the centre and handled every challenge Sikkim offered with skill, punishing them to make history. Prior to Baroda, Zimbabwe held the record for the highest T20 total when they defeated Gambia in Nairobi on October 23, 2024, scoring 344 runs in 20 overs at a cost of four wickets. Sikkim bowler Roshan took two wickets and gave up 81 runs in his allotted four overs in the first half of the game. In the game's shortest format, his numbers of 4-0-81-2 rank third in terms of bowling cost.

Afterwards, neither Vishnu Solanki nor Shivalik Sharma altered the game's tempo. They came on and batted hard, scoring 50 runs off 16 deliveries and 55 runs off 17 deliveries, respectively. As the game went on, the Sikkim bowlers appeared to have no idea what they were doing because none of their middle-field strategies worked. It was crucial that all of Baroda's hitters executed their aggressive mentality with the bat.
