ENG vs IND 2025: Jasprit Bumrah Not Playing in Edgbaston Test?

India's crisis man, Jasprit Bumrah, is probably going to miss the second Test match against England, which begins on July 2 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Indian Express highlighted the development, stating that "It could be the call of the Lord’s or workload management" as a potential explanation. Beginning on July 10, India will play their third Test match at Lord's, the most famous cricket stadium.

Particularly since the Border-Gavaskar series, when the other bowlers did not provide him with the support he would have desired, Bumrah has been India's most deadly weapon. Due to Mohammed Shami's absence and Mohammed Siraj's lacklustre performance, Bumrah is under a lot of pressure to fulfil the dual responsibilities of restricting runs and taking wickets.

Despite controlling the bulk of the match, Shubman Gill's India lost the first Test by five wickets, with Bumrah leading the assault. Despite taking five wickets, his fourteenth in Test cricket, Bumrah was unable to get the crucial assistance from his teammates. But in the second innings, as England chased down a massive 371 runs, Bumrah was unable to claim a single wicket. Between the two essays, Bumrah bowled 43.4 overs in total.

There has been much discussion about Bumrah's workload, and it is undeniable that the top seamer has been handling the seam department virtually by himself. This occurred in the first Test match at Headingley, and if we go back a few months, the situation was identical in Australia, where India lost 1-3 and missed out on a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

Then, during the final Test in Sydney, Bumrah had to get scans halfway through after suffering a back injury while playing all five games. Due to the injury, Bumrah was unable to participate in India's triumphant Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. He didn't play again until weeks after the prestigious ICC competition, when the Indian Premier League (IPL) began.

At Headingley, Bumrah was the only Indian bowler who appeared capable of taking a wicket in each spell, so this will be a major letdown for Indian supporters. Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna turned out to be costly, while Siraj failed to exhibit his trademark penetrating skills.  In England's opening innings, Bumrah took the initiative and scored the series' first five-for.

But in the second inning, Ben Duckett and company improved their game after learning from their errors. India might send in Akash Deep, who showed potential but had little luck in Australia, or give Arshdeep Singh his Test debut if the Gujarat seamer is forced to drop out.
