The former captain of India and the former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will remain the Delhi Capitals' "Director of Cricket," but he will not be playing for the team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the upcoming season or two. The GMR Group and JSW Sports, who jointly control the DC squad, said earlier Thursday that each of them will take turns managing the team for two years in the IPL and the Women's Premier League (WPL).
Ganguly and Parth Jindal, the creator of JSW Sports, have long had a close relationship, and this appointment is a continuation of their personal and business partnership. Ganguly began working with coach Ricky Ponting as an advisor for the Delhi Capitals in 2019. He later remained with the Capitals as Director of Cricket.
Sourav Ganguly takes on a new role:
The God of the off-side is now our Director of Cricket at JSW Sports. Here’s welcoming the icon, Sourav Ganguly in his new role with our family. We can’t wait for all that lies ahead with him by our side. 🐐#JSWSports #SouravGanguly #BetterEveryDay pic.twitter.com/8QxEUVMLGo

As a result, JSW Sports will manage the WPL club in addition to the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 league in South Africa, while GMR Group will manage the Delhi Capitals side in the IPL 2025 and 2026 seasons. JSW Sports announced the former Bengal southpaw as their "Director of Cricket" for the WPL and Pretoria Capitals, while the former decided to name Ganguly's former India teammate Venugopal Rao as the IPL's "Director of Cricket" for the forthcoming season.
Regarding his new position, Ganguly stated, "This was an easy choice because I've had the privilege of getting to know the Jindal family and the JSW Group both personally and professionally. I am happy to be able to contribute my experience to all of JSW Sports' cricket-related initiatives, as the organization has been undertaking innovative work in many areas."
Talking about DC's progress leading up to the 2025 Indian Premier League, rumours have circulated that Rishabh Pant may resign as captain of the team. After being in a terrible vehicle accident in December 2022, Pant made his comeback to competitive cricket in the IPL 2024 with DC.
