Following what it perceives to be unfair treatment by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Bangladesh's government sports advisor reaffirmed that Dhaka is not prepared to change its stance, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the country's participation in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

Following a discussion between the players on the national team and Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Nazrul, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made the decision. The ICC insisted that there was no real danger to the safety of its players, officials, or supporters in India, and the BCB was given a 24-hour deadline to agree to travel there or face replacement.

T20 World Cup 2026 Update:

He stated, “I think we did not get justice from the ICC. Whether we play in the World Cup or not is entirely a government decision." The remarks highlight the escalating hostility between the Bangladeshi government and the International Criminal Court (ICC), with officials feeling wronged by rulings made by the international organisation. Although the precise topic of complaint has not been made publicly clear, the stern tone implies discontent that is severe enough to perhaps affect Bangladesh's attendance at the major competition.

Asif Nazrul said, "While our cricketers have worked hard to qualify for the World Cup, the security risk regarding playing in India remains unchanged. This concern is not based on abstract analysis. We are not giving up hope yet; our team is ready. We expect the ICC to provide justice by considering our genuine security risks and allowing us to play in Sri Lanka."

A major development would be Bangladesh's potential exclusion from the T20 World Cup, with Scotland possibly replacing them in Group C of the prestigious competition. As of right now, the administration has the upper hand and has not immediately softened its position.
