The BCCI has once again offered former great Indian captain MS Dhoni an official mentorship position with the Indian national team, but this time it appears to be more comprehensive, encompassing women's cricket as well as all senior and junior teams. The former left-hander will undoubtedly be perplexed by the latest rumours that have been circulating since Gautam Gambhir was appointed head coach of India following the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.
During the 2021 T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, when Virat Kohli was captain and Ravi Shastri was coach, the former captain of India served as a mentor. The Men in Blue did not, however, advance to the knockout stages. They lost by 10 wickets to bitter rivals Pakistan during the tournament. This was their first World Cup loss to the Men in Green.

Due to a number of contentious management choices made since Gambhir's hiring, it appears the BCCI wishes to oversee the Indian head coach's activities and give him an extra mentoring position within the Indian system. Throughout his playing career, the renowned Indian captain MS Dhoni has given India many reasons to rejoice. As the only captain in history to lead a team to victory in every ICC white-ball tournament, the trailblazing captain continues to hold the record.
According to a BCCI source quoted by CricBlogger, Dhoni received the job offer. A source revealed, “Dhoni is once more offered to guide Indian cricket." His strategic thinking, calm leadership, and track record of winning under duress could help the squad be ready for another world title challenge, according to the board.
Insiders speculate that Dhoni may be hesitant to take the offer, though, given that Gautam Gambhir is the team's head coach. Despite their mutual admiration for their contributions to Indian cricket, Gambhir and Dhoni are likely to hold different ideologies as a result of their playing careers.
