The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals will have a reserve day in order to prevent weather-related disruptions from unfairly affecting the results of important knockout games. The 2026 edition, which India and Sri Lanka will co-host from February 7 to March 8, has now advanced to the semifinals. After an incredible run chase against the West Indies in the Super Eights, defending champions India are among the four teams that guaranteed their spots in the semifinals. While undefeated South Africa will play New Zealand, they will play two-time champion England.

The four teams that have qualified are India, South Africa, New Zealand and England. India will play England in the second semi-final on March 5 at Wankhede Stadium, while South Africa will play New Zealand in the first semi-final on March 4 at Eden Gardens. But as we get into the final four, cricket fans are worried about the weather. In this tournament, two games—most notably Pakistan's Super Eight match versus New Zealand on February 21—have been cancelled without a ball being bowled.

T20 World Cup 2026 Semi-Finals Update:

Fans would be concerned about the outcome of the semi-final matches in the event of a weather delay, even though both games are taking place in India. Fortunately, the ICC has set up reserve days for the semifinals and final, allowing the game to restart at a later time if weather interferes. The first semi-final on March 4 will take place on March 5 if it is entirely cancelled. In a similar vein, if rain prevents the second semifinal from taking place on March 5, it will be rescheduled for March 6.

The T20 World Cup final, which was originally scheduled for March 8 in Ahmedabad, will now take place on Monday, March 9. The reserve day match will likewise begin at 7:00 PM IST since the start time will remain unchanged. To guarantee that the matches are finished on the scheduled days, several measures will be implemented. The extra time allocated for both semifinals will be 90 minutes on regular days and 120 minutes on reserve days. On both days, the final will last 120 minutes.

The umpires will attempt to shorten overs as necessary in the event of a rain interruption, with a minimum of 10 overs per team required for a result. If it is not feasible, the match will restart with the same amount of overs available on the reserve day from the point of abandonment. The team that finishes better in the Super Eights will go to the T20 World Cup 2026 final if the reserve day is also cancelled.
