Just weeks before winning his first IPL championship with RCB, Virat Kohli shocked the cricket community by announcing his retirement from Test cricket. Days before the squad for the Test Series against England was announced, he left the red-ball format. After winning the T20 World Cup for the first time in his career last year, Kohli also declared his retirement from T20Is.
With a rating of 909, Kohli is now ranked third in the ICC's all-time T20I rankings, behind Suryakumar Yadav and Dawid Malan. Suryakumar Yadav has a career-best rating of 912, while Malan has a career-best of 919. Virat Kohli scored 937 points in Test cricket, which is his greatest rating point total; his career-best rating in ODIs is 911.
He will now only play in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for India, and his next appearance might be in the highly anticipated ODI series against Australia in October. But more than four months after making his national team debut (in the Champions Trophy 2025 final) and after retiring from both the longest and shortest versions of the game, Kohli has set yet another milestone.

Virat Kohli's domination in all three formats is demonstrated by his accomplishment of amassing over 900 rating points in each. For almost ten years, the cricket player was the backbone of India's batting order and captained the country in all three forms.
The Delhi right-hander participated in 125 Twenty20 Internationals. At a remarkable average of 48.69 and a strike-rate of 137.04, he amassed 4188 runs. He amassed 9230 runs, including 30 hundreds, at an average of 46.35 in 123 Test matches. He has more than 14,000 runs in the format, including 51 hundreds, and is currently playing in ODIs.
Following the postponement of the series against Bangladesh, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly in negotiations with Cricket Sri Lanka to play three ODIs and as many T20Is in August. This information was reported by Newswire. Due to the postponement of the Lankan Premier League 2025, which was originally planned for July or August, there is now more time for a matchup between the two titans of international cricket.
