India is aiming for a final position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25 cycle, hence the forthcoming series against New Zealand is crucial. India presently leads the WTC table with 74.24 percentage points after sweeping Bangladesh 2-0. India needs to win three more games in this cycle to guarantee a berth in the 2025 World Team Championship final at Lord's.
India still has eight Test matches to play in the 2024–2025 season, three of which are against New Zealand and five of which are against Australia for the Border–Gavaskar Trophy.
