Both Australia and the West Indies have announced their starting lineups for the series' first Test match, which is scheduled to start on Wednesday, June 25, at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. Australia's starting lineup for the first Test match against the West Indies was revealed. The match will begin on Wednesday, June 25, at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
After making his debut against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last year, Sam Konstas is back in the fold. Steve Smith, a 36-year-old batsman who fractured his finger during the World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa earlier this month, was also replaced by Josh Inglis.
West Indies vs Australia 2025:
Pat Cummins led the team against Roston Chase's West Indies, while the rest of the WTC final squad stayed the same. Marnus Labuschagne was dropped after poor performances. In addition to playing his first Test in two years, Chase will be making his debut as captain. Brandon King will make his debut, and Shai Hope and John Campbell will also rejoin the team. Australia will play three Test matches and five Twenty20 Internationals while on tour in the West Indies till the end of July.
Cummins said, "Coming over here with a few unknowns, that's fine, you have to think on your feet. We feel like the three quicks are better suited for this wicket. I always like to not have too many moving parts. We see that (Green at No. 3) as a long-term option. I think going into last week, he's hitting the ball really well, he's moving really well. He had a Test match where it obviously didn't go to plan. Think he only faced three or four balls, so the message is not to look into that too much. We're really happy with where his game's placed, and I dare say we'll get a decent run of number three."
As both teams prepare to start a new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship for 2025–2027, the recently appointed captain of the West Indies, Roston Chase, voiced confidence in the chosen combination. He said, "We're looking to play with a bit more flair and bring back that Caribbean style to the game. We're just looking forward to making the Caribbean nation proud. I just want to ask the fans to just support the boys through and through."
