Sam Konstas, a young Australian opener, recently discussed his feelings at not being included in the starting lineup for the current Test series against Sri Lanka. The 19-year-old was included in Australia's team for the Sri Lanka series after making an impression on his debut against India, but he was discharged in the middle of the tour without participating in any matches. Instead, Travis Head and Usman Khawaja were promoted by the team management to open the innings.
He was included in the squad for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka after making an impression against India during the series, however, he was removed in the middle of the tour. To participate in the Sheffield Shield, the 19-year-old went back to his hometown. On Saturday, he will play Queensland at the Gabba. In Sri Lanka, Australian sensation Travis Head took his position on the team roster.
Sam Konstas Gets Candid:
Konstas gained notoriety at the just-finished Border-Gavaskar Trophy after smashing a fast-paced 60-run knock in his first Test match. He was chosen for the Sri Lanka series because of his batting strategy and style. However, the Australian side chose a more seasoned roster in the subcontinent, thus Konstas had to warm the bench despite his outstanding start.
Talking to CODE Sports prior to the game he said, “I felt like I was very privileged to be in the squad. And obviously learning from the best players like Steve Smith, Travis Head and Usman Khawaja and how their methods are different in those conditions. I learnt quite a bit. I understood the reasons why. For me, it is just a great learning curve and if I do get another opportunity with the Test team I will grab it with both hands. I understand why Travis Head opened the batting because he is a legend of the game and he has been dominating."
