As Andre Russell took the field for what would be his last game wearing West Indies colours, he was given a heartfelt guard of honour. Russell played his final international game in the second Twenty20 International of the five-match series on Tuesday, July 22 (Wednesday, July 23 in India) at his home field, Kingston, Jamaica's famous Sabina Park.

At his home field, the storied Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, legendary all-rounder Andre Russell played his final Twenty20 International match for the West Indies, receiving an emotional send-off. On July 22, Russell entered the field as both teams lined up to provide a guard of honour as the second Twenty20 International between Australia and the West Indies began. In recognition of Russell's numerous achievements in West Indies cricket, Olivia Grange, the Honourable Minister of Sports, Entertainment, and Culture, was also in attendance and presented him with a unique souvenir.

West Indian and Australian players gathered to honour the all-rounder's remarkable career as he went down the well-known stairs. The stadium erupted in cheers as supporters stood up to express their love and respect for a player who had delighted them for more than ten years.

The 37-year-old had previously declared that this game would be his last Twenty20 International, capping an incredible ten-year international career. Russell concluded with 61 wickets and 1122 runs with a strike rate of 163 in 86 Twenty20 Internationals. He was notably a member of the West Indies' 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup winning teams. The all-rounder thanked his teammates, family, and friends for believing in him and supporting him for so long in his parting address. 

At the post-match interview, he said, "I just want to say thanks again. I'm very grateful to end my career here. Played in front of my home crowd, family and friends. The result didn't go my way, but at the end of the day, I'm happy and grateful. The crowd has been amazing in the last two games. Really appreciate it. We tried our best. I feel like it's time for me to just hang it up and wish the boys all the best moving forward. I'm very grateful for this amazing international career finishing at Sabina Park. Keep supporting."
