Andre Russell, an all-rounder for the West Indies, has stepped down from playing cricket internationally. His final appearances for the team are expected to be the first two home games of the West Indies' five-match T20I series against Australia. The first two matches of the five-match series, which will be played at Russell's home field of Sabina Park in Jamaica, will be his final appearances in international cricket. Russell, 37, has been named in the squad. In a memorial post, Windies Cricket announced his retirement.

Since 2019, Russell had only participated in T20Is. At a strike rate of 163.09 and an average of 22, he finished with 1078 runs from 84 T20Is. He took 61 wickets with the ball at an economy rate of 9.31 and an average of 30.59. Russell played 57 ODIs and one Test aside from this.

Andre Russell Announces Retirement:

In an official statement, Russell said, “Words cannot explain what it meant. To represent the West Indies has been one of the proudest achievements in my life. When I was a kid, I didn't expect to reach this level, but the more you start to play and fall in love with the sport, you realise what you can achieve. This inspired me to become better because I wanted to leave a mark in the maroon colours and become an inspiration to others."

He further added, I love playing for the West Indies and I love playing at home in front of my family and friends, where I get to showcase my talent and produce more high-quality performances. I want to finish my international career on a high while being a role model for the next generation of cricketers coming out of the Caribbean."

He recently appeared in the Major Cricket League (MLC) in the USA for the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR), amassing 126 runs in nine matches and eight innings at an average of 25.20, with a best score of 65*, his lone half-century. He also grabbed 10 wickets at an average of 32.90, with best figures of 3/30. His squad finished at the bottom of the standings and missed out on the playoffs.
