In a thrilling final, MI New York retained their composure to defeat Washington Freedom by five runs, capping off Major League Cricket 2025 in spectacular fashion. In addition to their initial championship win in the first-ever 2023 edition, MI New York's victory made them the first team to win two MLC crowns.
New York finished the first six overs at 58/0 thanks to Quinton de Kock's aggressive powerplay. On the other end, Monank Patel was unable to get underway. After hitting his first maximum of the innings in Mitchell Owen's opening over, he appeared to have finally settled into a rhythm. He did not survive long, either, as Lockie Ferguson hit him for 28 off 22 on the opening ball of his second over.
MLC 2025 Final Winner:
To bat, MI at the crease, New York had a mixed outing. Even though Monank Patel contributed 28 points, Quinton de Kock was the champs' stalwart. The South African batsman-wicketkeeper led MI to a respectable 180/7 with a scorching 77 off 46 balls. MI's middle-order held up just long enough to guarantee they had a manageable target on the board going into the tournament's final innings, even if they were losing wickets at regular intervals.

Maxwell and Glenn Phillips were in the middle, and Washington needed 41 runs in the last three overs. The equation was altered to 24 off the last two overs by a 17-run over off Tristan Luus's fourth. In the penultimate over, Boult let up 12 runs, which left 22-year-old Ugarkar to defend. The young player won it for his team in the last over by displaying incredible poise.
After defeating the Seattle Orcas in 2023 to capture the first title, MI New York has solidified their position as the most successful team in MLC history. Their resilience and big-match temperament are demonstrated by their ability to perform well under duress, particularly following a difficult tournament debut. With two championships in three years, MI New York has established itself as a major force in American franchise cricket and cemented their place in MLC legend.
