With the official establishment of the Women's T20 Mumbai League, scheduled to start on June 1, the Mumbai Cricket Association has made a significant step towards fortifying the city's women's cricket system. The new franchise-based league, which is modelled after the popular men's T20 Mumbai League, aims to provide Mumbai women's cricket players a platform.
With bids indicating growing commercial interest in the women's game, this seven-match women's spectacular, which is modelled after the fast-paced IPL-style men's T20 Mumbai League, aims to showcase Mumbai's rich talent pool. The league will only be open to women cricket players from Mumbai's 55 affiliated teams and is tentatively scheduled to run from June 1 to June 15, simultaneously with the men's event following the 2026 Indian Premier League.
Women’s T20 Mumbai League Bidding:
Subject to availability, legendary players Sayali Satghare, Saima Thakor, and Jemimah Rodrigues are expected to lead the charge. The squads will be augmented through an auction. Mumbai's cricket ecosystem, which is richer in club depth than many states, is highlighted by this native format.
The MCA has already made almost INR 4 crore from the sale of three franchises. The highest bidder, PRS Infraprojects LLP, paid INR 2.25 crore, followed by World Star Sporting Private Limited at INR 79 lakh and Roadway Solution India Infra Ltd at INR 1.09 crore. Subject to the T20 Mumbai Governing Council's approval and the execution of formalities, the winning bids will formally run the three teams.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik praised the result as revolutionary. He said, “The overwhelming response to the bidding process for the T20 Mumbai Women’s League is a strong endorsement of our vision to elevate women’s cricket in Mumbai. The participation of reputed corporate groups reflects the growing commercial confidence in the women’s game. We are committed to building a competitive and professionally managed league that provides a robust platform for emerging talent.”
