When Australia plays South Africa in the semi-final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup here on Thursday, they will begin as overwhelming favourites in their pursuit of a record eighth final appearance. In all nine of the global T20 tournament's editions since 2009, which have been held in England, Australia has advanced to the semi-finals. In what appears to be a rematch of the top matchup from the 2023 tournament in South Africa, which the Southern Stars won by 19 runs, the six-time champions play the Proteas women in a last-four match.

South Africa, meanwhile, won all three of their matches against Bangladesh, Scotland, and the West Indies to finish second in Group B. So far, the Proteas have only lost once, and that was against England. Laura Wolvaardt's team will try to get revenge for losing to them in the Women's T20 World Cup finals the previous year.

The greatest opening duo in this year's major event has been Tazmin Brits and captain Laura Wolvaardt. With 155 runs from four games at an average of 51.67 and a strike rate of 105.44, the former is the tournament's top scorer. Wolvaardt, meanwhile, has amassed 148 runs with a strike rate of 111.28 and an average of 49.33.
