A site change for the 2018 Women's ODI World Cup was confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday. The tournament opener and a possible final are among the five games that were initially planned at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium but have been moved to Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium.

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) was rocked by the incident outside Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. To celebrate RCB's first IPL triumph, thousands of fans flocked to the stadium, but poor crowd control caused mayhem that left dozens injured and several dead. The government blamed the franchise and KSCA for the incident, which caused indignation throughout the state.

Women's World Cup 2025:

Following a rush during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory celebrations following the IPL 2025 final in June, the Karnataka cricket board was unable to obtain the required clearances from the state police to play matches at the historic stadium, which led to the venue shift.

Following the tragedy, a state-appointed committee deemed the location unsuitable for big parties. Since then, police have refused to allow the stadium to host important events. Even KSCA's suggestion to hold competitions behind closed doors was turned down. The Maharaja T20 League had to be moved from Bengaluru to Mysuru as a result, which further demonstrated the government's strict approach.

The competition will still go place from September 30 to November 2. Now, the 50-over quadrennial showcase tournament would be held at five locations, including Navi Mumbai. Five games, including the first game on September 30, a semifinal, and maybe the championship game, were scheduled to take place in Bengaluru. The tournament opener between Sri Lanka and India will now take place in Guwahati on the same day.
