Tilak Varma, an Indian batsman, will play for Hampshire in the current County season. Hampshire has asked the 22-year-old, who has so far played four ODIs and 25 T20Is for the Indian squad, to participate in the County Championship Division One event, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) announced in a press statement on Wednesday, June 11.

During his time with Hampshire, the 22-year-old will play in four County Championship games. The Hyderabad hitter is currently considered one of India's most promising all-format talents, and this is his first time playing in a county. Tilak's participation in the County Championship was confirmed by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) in a statement.

Tilak Varma's New Journey:

In an HCA statement, he said, "The Hyderabad Cricket Association is happy to inform that Hyderabad international player Mr N Thakur Tilak Varma has been approached by the team Hampshire County to play in the UK County Championship League. The Hyderabad Cricket Association wishes him a great stint with Hampshire County.”

Varma has played 18 first-class matches so far, amassing 1204 runs with five hundreds and four fifties. He was last seen playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2025 Indian Premier League. The red-ball format average for the southpaw is 50.16. In addition to being a skilled fielder, Varma can also be a useful off-spinner, taking eight wickets at a strike rate of 24.10 and an average of 12.87.

Since making his India debut in 2023, Tilak has played in 25 Twenty20 Internationals and four One-Day Internationals. He has scored 749 runs, including two hundreds, at an outstanding average of 49.93, solidifying his position as a vital member of India's T20I team. The Mumbai Indians batsman had a somewhat quiet season in the IPL 2025, scoring 343 runs in 16 games, including two fifties.
