A respiratory tract infection kept Zimbabwe's starter Prince Masvaure out of Sunday's second Test match against South Africa at Queens Sports Club. He was excluded from the playing XI after being declared unfit. During the first Test last week, Masvaure was brought into the team to replace Brian Bennett due to a concussion. Bennett, who is still recovering from the concussion he suffered in that game, was also not available for selection.

Masvaure was declared unfit to participate and was not included in Zimbabwe's starting lineup. Zimbabwe Cricket said in a statement that Masvaure was considered unable to play due to a respiratory tract infection. It said, "Masvaure is suffering from a respiratory tract infection and was deemed unfit to play." During the first Test match last week, he replaced Brian Bennett, who suffered a concussion.

Prince Masavure Ruled Out:

One of two changes made to Zimbabwe's playing XI for the second Test match is the selection of Dion Myers to replace Masvaure. In the other move, Vincent Masekesa will be replaced for the current match against the Proteas by Kundai Matigimu, who will be making his Test debut. In order to tie the series 1-1 and advance to the T20 action in a Tri-Nation series, which includes New Zealand as the third team competing, the hosts, who were behind 0-1 in the two-match series against the World Test Championship winners, won the toss and decided to field first.
