Former Indian cricketer and analyst Wasim Jaffer has asserted that playing the Duleep Trophy would have helped the 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who played for the East Zone.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jaffer reckoned that Sooryavanshi makes changes very quickly to improve his game, adding that the red-ball experience in the East Zone would have helped him a lot.
The East Zone opening batter, who was the vice-captain of the side, scored 192 runs across five innings at an average of 38.40, including a half-century. He ended the prestigious campaign as the fifth-leading run-scorer.
“I think he would have understood certain things about his game. He is a good reader and we have seen how quickly he can bring changes to his game. We saw it in the T20 format. These innings against good bowlers and good teams in the Duleep Trophy would have helped him to learn a lot and to know how to score in this format,” Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.
Further, Jaffer added that he would love to watch the teen batting sensation play in the Ranji Trophy and challenged him to bat for two sessions or even the whole day to improve his red-ball skills.
“When he plays the Ranji Trophy from here, I am sure we can see better performances from him. I want to see him bat for two sessions or even the whole day,” he added.
Sooryavanshi will now take part in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in Delhi. Later, he will be a part of the one-off T20I in Japan, the Asian Games 2026 in Japan, and the five-match West Indies series at home.
It’s important to note that Sooryavanshi secured the Orange Cap in the IPL 2026 season with 776 runs for the Rajasthan Royals at a blistering strike rate of 237.30.
