The independent thriller Stolen is now being released in its native India, two years after it received praise at the 2023 Venice Film Festival. Stolen has chosen to go straight to streaming, just like a lot of other popular films from film festivals. The streamer revealed on Monday that the Abhishek Banerjee film will be available on Prime Video on June 4. The project is produced by Gaurav Dhingra and directed by Karan Tejpal, who made his directorial debut with the movie.
With the help of a stellar group of executive producers, including Anurag Kashyap, Kiran Rao, Nikkhil Advani, and Vikramaditya Motwane, Stolen, which is produced by Gaurav Dhingra for Jungle Book Studio, is the directorial debut of Karan Tejpal. The film was co-written by Karan Tejpal, Gaurav Dhingra, and Swapnil Salkar-Agadbumb. The film chronicles the dramatic experience of two urbane brothers who, at a remote Indian railway station, witness the abduction of a baby from a poor mother.
Stolen Movie gets OTT Platform:
At the 80th Venice Film Festival in 2023, the movie made its global premiere. On its Instagram account, Prime Video posted the movie poster with Banerjee. The caption read, "A missing child and a thrilling race against time. #StolenOnPrime, June 4." The gripping story of two urbane brothers who watch a baby being taken from a poor mother at a rural Indian train station is told in Stolen.
In a statement discussing the project, executive producer Anurag Kashyap stated, "Cinema that is strong, unflinching, relentless and emotionally raw will always grab you from the first frame and not let go--that's exactly what Stolen did to me."
Kiran Rao added, "Stolen is a rare film that combines thrilling narrative tension with a deeply humane core. The character of Jhumpa stayed with me long after I watched the film--her vulnerability and resilience are a reminder of the strength that lies in the most unexpected places. It's that rare kind of cinema that captivates while drawing the audience deeper with every frame."
