It's possible that Akshay Kumar's police drama Rowdy Rathore won't get a sequel. After three years of work to create a sequel to the well-known entertainer, the movie has been shelved, according to a report. According to the source, the sequel's script will now be used to create a stand-alone movie.
It appears like "Rowdy Rathore 2" is no longer happening. After three years of tenacious but unsuccessful attempts to develop the eagerly anticipated sequel, producers Shabinaa Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali have decided to shelve it, according to industry sources who spoke to us confidentially. Additionally, a stand-alone original movie will now be made using the script meant for the sequel.

Disney India now owns Rowdy Rathore and Sanjay Leela Bhansali after acquiring Ronnie Screwvala's UTV Motion Pictures. The producers reportedly hesitated to move forward with the sequel despite years of discussions because Disney was unwilling to commit to the project. Producers Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Shabinaa Khan have now made the decision to adapt the script into a brand-new commercial entertainer that is unrelated to Rowdy Rathore.
V. Vijayendra Prasad, the father of SS Rajamouli and the author of popular films like Baahubali and RRR, wrote the story. The 2012 Akshay Kumar film's mainstream entertainment appeal is being preserved while the script is being revised to produce a new, fast-paced police drama.
Sidharth Malhotra, who was originally in talks to star in the film, may not be involved anymore as the makers are hesitant to cast him, citing concerns about his box office draw in an action-driven role. The casting of this updated, brand-new action entertainer has not yet been finalized. To play a tough, big-hearted police officer who will stop at nothing to defend his people, they are aggressively looking for a younger, bankable actor. The production is scheduled to begin in early 2026.
