One of the cutest and most endearing films of 2024 is Laapataa Ladies. Starring alongside Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan, the film is directed by Kiran Rao. After 13 years, Kiran Rao made her directorial debut with Laapataa Ladies, her second picture following Dhobi Ghaat. The film Kiran's plot was written by Biplab Goswami. The film received praise for its ability to humorously critique patriarchal culture while also featuring some endearing and thought-provoking scenes.

Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastava's performances were highly appreciated in addition to the narrative. The movie has been selected as one of the 97th Academy Awards' Best International Film nominees. The Kiran Rao-directed film was selected from 29 Indian films to represent India officially at the 2025 Oscars, according to the Hindustan Times.
Article 370, Hanuman, Kalki 2898 AD, All We Imagine As Light, and Ranbir Kapoor's Animal were also included in the list. The group, which included Assamese director Jahnu Barua, opted to submit Rao's film for the Academy Awards' Best International Film category.
The film's box office performance wasn't particularly impressive when it was first shown in theatres. Nonetheless, the Aamir Khan-directed film was warmly received when it debuted on Netflix. In terms of views, it even triumphed against Animal by Ranbir Kapoor.
Kiran Rao has before admitted to being a "Laapataa" in her work, searching for amazing stories, in an interview with HT. She received the narrative from Aamir Khan, which was penned by Biplab. Rao said that the story struck a deep chord with her and that she wants to investigate the range of circumstances that women, married or not, encounter.
The narrative of Laapataa Ladies centres on Phool (Nitanshi) and Deepak, a recentlywed couple (Sparsh). The story takes place in the early 2000s before social networking became a thing. Due to confusion brought on by their lotus-covered faces, Deepak welcomes home another wife when they are travelling to his house and loses Phool on the train. In the process of the women in the novel realizing who they really are, a guy goes in search of his missing wife.
