After videos of him doing pull-ups inside a Mumbai Metro coach appeared on social media, actor Varun Dhawan—who is currently enjoying a positive reception from the public for his most recent film, Border 2—found himself at the centre of a controversy. In order to avoid the city's severe traffic, the actor decided to use the metro for an unexpected visit to a movie theatre on Saturday.
The actor was shown in the video idly dangling from an overhead grab grip inside a moving metro train. He even seems to encourage others to attempt the same action by grinning and being at ease, making an everyday commute into a fun endeavour. Naturally, social media fans were loving it until the metro authorities called him out.

Yes, hanging out with friends is cool but public transport is not a playground.
Those grab handles are meant for safety, not stunts.
Such actions don’t just risk lives, they also damage public property and… pic.twitter.com/2sUR3llZcR
Earlier, Varun Dhawan asked fans to guess which theatre he was going to in an Instagram story he posted from inside the subway. Soon after, videos of him performing pull-ups while hanging from the overhead metal rod, with other commuters standing nearby, started making the rounds on the internet.
Later, the Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) posted the footage along with a cautionary note on social media. The caption said, “This video should have come with a disclaimer like the ones in your action movies, @Varun_dvn. Do Not Try This On Maha Mumbai Metro. We get it, it is cool to hang out with friends inside our metros, but those grab handles are not for hanging."
The authorities emphasised that, particularly during rush hours, stunts inside metro coaches might put not only the participant but also other passengers in danger. Additionally, it emphasised that under the Metro Railways (Operations and Maintenance) Act, 2002, actions may be taken for disturbance, unsafe behaviour, or damage to metro property.
