Former West Indies cricketer Chris Gayle, who is currently playing in the World Championship of Legends (WCL 2026) in the UAE, has showered praise on the Indian talismanic batter Virat Kohli, calling him a phenomenal player.
Speaking to ANI on the sidelines of the WCL 2026 season, Gayle was hopeful that Kohli continues to play international cricket for a long period of time. The former RCB opener also highlighted Kohli’s success in the IPL and his performances for the national team.
“The man is a legend, the man is unique, he is phenomenal. I cannot find any other word to actually uplift Virat because, as I said, everybody is calling him the King Kohli, he has done so much for the game of cricket as well, and hopefully he can carry on as long as possible, especially in the international scene. He has been dominant in the IPL as well. So, like I said, great guy, great person,” Gayle said.
Gayle also congratulated West Indies after they chased down 250 runs in the second T20I against India. Skipper Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 102 off 45 balls, while Sherfane Rutherford smashed 84 from just 37 deliveries.
“I must say well done to Shai Hope, the captain, leading from the front, he is in superb form as well. I saw Rutherford got an 80-odd as well and Shepherd, you know, chipping in with some runs. But it is actually, you know, great for cricket. But I think the bowlers are a bit upset because 240, 250 becomes easy to chase down now in T20 cricket,” he added.
“The toss is very important because those wickets are very flat, and then you have the dew factor as well, so it is going to be even more difficult for bowlers to get the hold of that ball,” he concluded.
