ICC unveils ODI World Cup 2027 schedule; India to take on Australia in campaign opener

The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Thursday, October 1, unveiled the full and final schedule for the ICC ODI World Cup 2027, scheduled to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia next year.

The tournament is scheduled to commence on Saturday, October 2, with the Super Series. The Group Stage begins with the ODI World Cup 2023 finalists India and Australia taking on each other.

Afghanistan, Australia, India, Pakistan, Zimbabwe and one of the qualifiers are part of Group A. Bangladesh, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and the other qualifier will be a part of Group B.

Each team plays the other five teams in its group once, making a total of 30 round-robin group matches. The top three teams from Group A and the top three teams from Group B automatically qualify for the next stage. The seventh and final spot goes to the best fourth-placed team comparing both groups based on points, wins, and net run rate.
