Chennai Super Kings (CSK) didn’t have a very good outing in IPL 2026. They won 6 games and lost 8 out of the 14 matches they played and finished at No. 8 on the IPL 2026 points table. This was the third straight IPL edition since winning the IPL 2023, in which CSK finished in the bottom half of the points table.
With the IPL 2027 mini-auction reportedly scheduled for December this year, expect CSK to let go of a few players, and today we take a look at three such players that CSK might release.
Here are the 3 players CSK could release before the IPL 2027 mini-auction:
3. Shreyas Gopal
Shreyas Gopal was included in the IPL 2026 squad by Chennai Super Kings to add more experience to their spin contingent. However, with Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad doing the bulk of spin duties for CSK, Shreyas Gopal only warmed the bench for the yellow franchise. Overall, in his IPL career, Gopal has 52 wickets in 52 games, with an economy of 8.86, while his last IPL game came in the 2024 edition for the Mumbai Indians.
2. Rahul Chahar
Rahul Chahar was a huge addition to the CSK squad for INR 5.20 crores but only managed to play one game in the whole IPL 2026 season against the Punjab Kings. Chahar has been in good form in domestic cricket in the UK, but financially it doesn’t make sense for CSK to retain Chahar when he is not going to be given games, and his release frees up INR 5.20 crores for the franchise.
1. Prashant Veer
Prashant Veer, Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) INR 14.20 crore investment, gave almost no returns to the franchise. The left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder was acquired for a massive fee as a potential long-term successor to Ravindra Jadeja. However, his performance was below par in the opportunities he got in the IPL 2026. Veer underperformed, significantly scoring just 90 runs in 6 matches and failing to make an impact with the ball. Releasing Veer will free up a huge sum of money for Chennai Super Kings, and he might be rebought by the franchise for a lesser amount.
