Following the announcement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) would be suspended for one week due to rising tensions at the India-Pakistan border, the renowned Indian and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, MS Dhoni, was recently spotted boarding a flight to his hometown of Ranchi.

A cricket player and his family are seen in the footage posted by a fan page on Instagram of MS Dhoni on the aircraft to Ranchi. Other travellers can be seen in the video attempting to attract the attention of the World Cup-winning captain by capturing him on their phones.

The season was a letdown for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). They were eliminated from the postseason chase after winning just three of their twelve games. Ruturaj Gaikwad's injury in the middle of the season led to Dhoni's comeback as captain. But CSK was unable to bounce back from their bad start. In their first five games, they suffered four defeats. Despite Dhoni's leadership and experience, the team was unable to generate any momentum.

This season, Dhoni participated in 12 games. At a strike rate of 140.62 and an average of 25.71, he amassed 180 runs. He scored 30 not out against the Delhi Capitals, which was his highest score. He scored an undefeated 17 runs in CSK's final game before the break. At Eden Gardens, his composed finish helped CSK defeat the Kolkata Knight Riders by two wickets.

Following the match against KKR, the batsman-wicketkeeper responded to rumours that he was retiring and suggested that he might return for the upcoming season. At the post-match interview, he said, "That's the love and affection I have got throughout, not to forget, I'm 43 and I have played for a long time. They don't know when it will be my last year, it is a fact that I play only two months a year. This IPL gets over, then I have to work for the next 6–8 months to see if my body is able to take this kind of pressure. (on his retirement plans) Nothing to decide as of now, but the love and affection I get everywhere is excellent."
