Chennai Super Kings are last in the 10-team league with just two victories in seven IPL 2025 games. None of the other batters have made significant contributions, with the exception of Rachin Ravindra and Shivam Dube. Although MS Dhoni makes appearances near the conclusion of the innings, CSK needed a guy who could give them batting steadiness.
Dewald Brevis of South Africa has joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to play the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in lieu of Gurjapneet Singh, who is injured. The Proteas batter has been appointed the left-arm pacer's replacement in the team, formally ruling him out of the rest of the competition.
With a maximum score of 162, Dewald Brevis has amassed 1787 runs in 81 Twenty20 matches. He has played in two Twenty20 Internationals since making his debut for South Africa in 2023. Brevis played ten games for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the past. He will pay INR 2.2 crore to join CSK. The young batsman, known as "Baby AB" because of how much his batting style resembles that of the great AB de Villiers, has established himself in the CPL, MLC, and SA20. In the latter, he was the sixth-highest run scorer with 291 at a strike rate of 184.17, helping MI Cape Town win their first championship.
Dewald Brevis Joins CSK:
In an official statement, IPL revealed, "Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South Africa's Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Dewald Brevis has played 81 T20s and scored 1787 runs with a highest score of 162. He made his T20I Debut for South Africa in 2023 and has played 2 T20Is so far. Brevis was previously part of Mumbai Indians (MI), where he played 10 matches. He will join CSK for INR 2.2 Crore."

CSK brought in 21-year-old Brevis after fast bowler Gurjapneet Singh was forced to miss the IPL 2025 due to injury. Since the five-time winners recently acquired Ayush Mhatre to their roster, this marks Chennai's second substitution of the season. Notably, Ruturaj Gaikwad, their mainstay captain, suffered a hairline fracture to his left elbow during one of the current IPL season's games, necessitating Mhatre's arrival. The renowned captain MS Dhoni has now taken over the captaincy role.
With only two victories from their first seven games, the team has had a slow start to their IPL 2025 campaign. Their next matchup will be against the Mumbai Indians, and it will take place at the legendary Wankhede Stadium. Notably, the two teams faced off in their respective tournament openers at Chennai's M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. The home team made a good start to the season but then suffered five straight losses. To begin the winning streak, they will be aiming for another victory.
