Following his second consecutive season of contract withdrawal from the Delhi Capitals, Harry Brook may face a two-year ban from all future IPL competitions. After ECB officials notified the BCCI of Brook's intention to withdraw last week, the Delhi Capitals acquired him for INR 6.25 crore (£590,000) at the IPL mega-auction last November, according to ESPNcricinfo.
Following a lacklustre Champions Trophy campaign, England batsman Harry Brook has decided to withdraw from the forthcoming Indian Premier League season. following losing every match in their group stage, the English team was eliminated from the competition, and Jos Buttler resigned as captain following that.
Harry Brook Out of IPL 2025:
The IPL has not yet issued an official statement regarding Brook's desire for "time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date," despite his social media* statements to that effect. He is considered to be the leading candidate to replace Jos Buttler as England's white-ball captain after their Champions Trophy group-stage defeat. Workload management might have contributed to the withdrawal as an all-formats player with 18 months remaining on his ECB central contract. The European Central Bank has been asked to react.
In a social media post, the 26-year-old expressed regret to the Delhi Capitals team and their fans for withdrawing from the 2025 Indian Premier League. Brook wrote on X, "I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL. I apologise unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters. I love cricket. Ever since I was a young boy I have dreamt of playing for my country and I am extremely thankful to have the opportunity to play the game I love at this level."
The decision could result in a two-year ban from the IPL for him. The new rule was put into place prior to the IPL 2025 auction after all ten teams expressed their dissatisfaction with a history of late pullouts by foreign players.
