The blockbuster auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) is quickly approaching. The two-day event will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25. Among those up for grabs are Rishabh Pant, Glenn Maxwell, KL Rahul, Mitchell Starc, Shreyas Iyer, and Kagiso Rabada.

Irfan Pathan, a former all-rounder for India, believes that wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant would surpass Mitchell Starc, a fast bowler for Australia, as the most costly player in IPL (Indian Premier League) history. Notably, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) purchased Starc at the IPL 2024 mini-auction for an incredible INR 24.75 crore.

When he was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Starc outbid his Australian counterpart Pat Cummins for INR 20.50 crore at the same auction. Pathan believes Rishabh Pant, who is anticipated to be among the most sought-after players in the bidding event, has a good chance of breaking that record in the next auction.

Irfan Pathan Predicts Auction Record:

Irfan Pathan also said that Rishabh Pant is going to "break it" and that Australia's Mitchell Starc pacer's record is in jeopardy. Starc was selected by the Kolkata Knight Riders for an incredible INR 24.75 crore during the previous year's mini-auction, making him the most expensive selection in the tournament's history.

The former India all-rounder, nevertheless, thinks Pant, who is in Australia right now for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will have little trouble surpassing Starc's asking price. The Delhi Capitals (DC) have released Pant ahead of the next auction after the wicketkeeper-batsman expressed interest in the selling price at the bidding event in a late-night post on his X account.

It remains to be seen if the Delhi Capitals will increase their bid to activate Pant's right-to-match (RTM) option, as they have INR 73 crore left in their auction purse. The mega auction will have 574 players in all. 366 Indian players and 208 foreign players, including three from partner countries, make up the 574 players. Additionally, 12 uncapped international players and 318 Indian uncapped players will be up for sale. There will be 204 spots available, with 70 of those being for players from other countries.
