At the recent Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, pacer Mohammed Siraj broke down in tears when he bowled to Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli's towering figure and the boisterous Chinnaswamy crowd behind him have supported him from the inner ring for all these years, but not on Wednesday, April 2. He faced off against Kohli as well as the devoted and occasionally menacing Chinnaswamy crowd.
When facing his former captain and teammate, Kohli, Siraj, who opened the bowling for GT, appeared a little overwhelmed. He pulled out of his run-up just before delivering a ball to the star batter, possibly taking a moment to gather himself. It's common for them to miss their run-up and abort, but the occasion and emotions surrounding Siraj were so intense that the internet thought he couldn't bowl the first ball to Virat Kohli because he was playing against RCB in Bengaluru. The fast bowler himself indirectly acknowledged this after the game.

Mohammed Siraj said, "It was emotional because I played for seven years here (for RCB). There was some nervousness and some emotion, but the moment I got the ball in my hand, it was full-on."
The 31-year-old put on a performance that won Player of the Match in spite of the first emotional moment. In the powerplay, he destroyed RCB's top order with final figures of 3/19. Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal were among those he dismissed; the former's stumps were observed cartwheeling. Liam Livingstone, who was seeming threatening in the final overs, was his third and most significant breakthrough.
After the previous season, RCB let go of Siraj, and Gujarat purchased the India fast bowler for $1.4 million at the November auction.
