Phil Salt, the opening batsman for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), will not play in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) matchup against the Delhi Capitals. The management has added Jacob Bethell to the starting lineup in his place. RCB captain Rajat Patidar announced during the toss that Salt is unable to play in the match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi because he has a fever.
After winning the toss, RCB captain Rajat Patidar decided to field first. The skipper was pleased with their first home victory in the most recent game and eager to get better in the ones that were coming up. However, as they wanted to bat first, Axar Patel didn't feel guilty about losing the toss. He later discussed how well he bowled in the previous game. Phil Salt has a fever, thus, he will miss this game versus DC. Jacob Bethell was brought in by RCB. In Salt's absence, he might open the game with Virat Kohli.

After bouncing back from a groin injury, Faf du Plessis is back for the Delhi-based team. Prior to his injury, he was playing at an excellent level. Now that they have a strong opening duo, DC will want to crush RCB's bowling attack throughout the powerplays. During the toss, Patidar said, “Salt is down with fever. So Jacob Bethell comes in his place."
Virat Kohli and Phil Salt have established a strong opening combination for the RCB. The right-handed Salt has amassed 239 runs with a strike rate of 168.31 and an average of 26.56 in his nine games thus far. In the IPL 2025 season, this is the first game that Salt will miss for RCB. Rajat Patidar declared, “We will bowl first. The wicket is quite good to bat on, and I don't think it's going to change too much, and we like to chase.”
