Bevon Jacobs, a hard-hitting middle-order batsman for the Auckland Aces, has received his first international call-up from New Zealand Cricket (NZC) for the forthcoming three-match Twenty20 International series against Sri Lanka, which starts on December 28. Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, and Rachin Ravindra, who were absent from the Sri Lankan tour last month, have returned to the T20I and ODI teams.
Mitchell Santner's first assignment as New Zealand's full-time white-ball captain will be the home series against Sri Lanka, which consists of three Twenty20 Internationals and an equal number of One-Day Internationals. After a stellar domestic season and a standout showing for Canterbury Kings in the Super Smash T20 event, where he amassed 134 runs in six innings with a strike rate of 188.73, Jacobs was selected.

In the most recent IPL 2025 auction, he also secured a contract with the Mumbai Indians (MI). He went to Canterbury after beginning his career with Auckland, where he made his List A and T20 debuts. ESPN quotes NZC selector Sam Wells saying, "It's obviously an exciting time for Bevon and his family. He's a promising player with a lot of talent and we're looking forward to exposing him to international cricket. He's clearly got a lot of power with the bat, but he's also shown in the longer formats that he has a decent technique and temperament."
Tim Robinson and Zac Foulkes will only play in the 20-over series, but wicketkeeper-batter Mitch Hay, who made his New Zealand debut in November, has been named in both the T20I and ODI squads. In the meantime, only Will Young, Tom Latham, and Will O'Rourke have been recruited to the ODI squad. After making their international debuts earlier this year, this series will be their first chance to showcase their skills domestically.
