In addition to the date change, the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) final may also see a venue change. PTI correspondents say that the site change was caused by bad weather conditions. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is thought to be the most likely venue to host the championship game. Ahmedabad is presently the front-runner to host the summit match after hosting the IPL finals in 2022 and 2023.
Due to growing geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, the 18th season of the lucrative league was halted for a week beginning May 9. Even though a ceasefire was declared on May 10, the board has yet to make an official announcement until the situation has improved.
In the IPL, the final is often hosted at the home field of the reigning champions. The original plan was for the final to take place on May 25 at Kolkata's Eden Gardens, home of the reigning champion Kolkata Knight Riders. Given the league's one-week suspension from May 9 owing to border tensions between India and Pakistan, hosting the final on May 25 is not an option. On May 10, the two nations decided to implement a ceasefire. However, the league is anticipated to start on May 16 or May 17 due to the availability of players from abroad and other logistical concerns.
IPL 2025 Finale Venue Change:
Mint quoted Rajeev Shukla saying, "No decision has been taken yet. The BCCI officials are working on the situation. The tournament was suspended for a week, and yesterday there was a ceasefire. The tournament will be restarted soon."
Date | Chance of Rain | Chance of Thunderstorms |
---|---|---|
May 25 (Sunday) | 70 % | 40 % |
May 30 (Friday) | 61 % | 34 % |
May 31 (Saturday) | 55 % | 33 % |
June 1 (Sunday) | 40 % | 20 % |
The BCCI is reportedly planning to start the league again by May 16 or 17, with the opening game between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Lucknow Super Giants taking place in Lucknow. Rajiv Shukla, the BCCI's vice president, added that no decision has been made as of yet. This season, Kolkata has already seen one rain abandonment. Rain during the second innings forced the cancellation of the April 26 league match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings.
