Former Indian chairman of selectors and commentator Kris Srikkanth has responded to the rumours of former England captain Eoin Morgan and former England red-ball head coach Brendon McCullum becoming the new head coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth has asserted that Morgan should stick with commentary instead of becoming the head coach of the Chennai-based outfit, adding that he didn’t have a good record as a captain for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
“I won’t go for Eoin Morgan for sure. He was a good player and a good captain for England. But as a coach, I won’t accept him as an option. Even for KKR as their captain, he didn’t do anything great. It’ll be best if he just sticks with commentary. Likewise, it’ll be good for CSK if they don’t appoint Brendon McCullum as the head coach. They should say no to both Morgan and McCullum,” Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
Furthermore, the former Indian batter has emphasised that CSK should have their batting coach Michael Hussey as their new head coach for the forthcoming IPL 2027 season. However, he went on to state that the team management needs to finalise MS Dhoni’s place in the franchise.
“CSK don’t need anyone from outside when they have Mr Cricket with them. Michael Hussey should be the automatic head coach. He will be the best choice. But what will MS Dhoni’s place in CSK be going forward? That arrangement has to be fixed first, and only then will everything else fall in place,” he added.
CSK finished in eighth place in the IPL 2026 standings after the league stage. They won only six out of their 14 matches, ending the tournament with 12 points and missing out on the playoffs.
