Former Indian middle-order batter Hanuma Vihari has stated that one of the main reasons behind India’s 165-run win in the first Test against Sri Lanka was Manav Suthar’s exceptional 10-wicket match haul.
While Suthar scalped an impressive four-wicket haul in the first innings, he went on to better his figures, picking up an exceptional six-wicket haul to make it a 10-wicket match haul. Notably, it was just his second Test in his career.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Vihari has explained the technical details behind Suthar’s success. He went on to add that the young left-arm spinner always aims to attack the stumps line, which is why his major dismissals are LBW and bowled.
“One of the main reasons India won against Sri Lanka was Manav Suthar’s bowling. Not because of his wickets, which he was taking anyway, but the way he was bowling. He has everything a very impressive spinner needs,” Vihari said on his YouTube channel.
“For a spinner, if the wrist position is correct, then turn is obtained. If the body is moving towards the batter and the entire body is behind the ball, then drift and turn are also there. If you observe another thing, his bowling action is diagonal. After coming into the action, he stays close to the crease, so his entire direction is towards the stumps. His major dismissals are LBW and bowled because he attacks the stump line. That is his biggest strength, and his action is also very fluent. I think he will be one of the best bowlers in Test cricket in the future,” he added.
