Former Indian chairman of selectors and commentator Kris Srikkanth has heaped praise on Mayank Yadav, who was adjudged the player of the match for his heroic 4/18 spell against Zimbabwe in the first T20I.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth has asserted that Mayank has even single-handedly won games for his side against a champion side like Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
In the IPL 2024 season, Mayank scalped 3/14 against RCB in his four-over spell at the Chinnaswamy Stadium as LSG bagged a 28-run win. Furthermore, Srikkanth said that Mayank can do with his bowling what Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can do with the bat for India.
“It was good to see Mayank Yadav back to his best because he has done well in his limited international and IPL career. He has even single-handedly won matches for his side against RCB. Mayank Yadav can do with his bowling what Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can do with the bat for India. He is generating good pace. But I just hope he doesn’t keep getting injured,” Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
Furthermore, the former Indian batter has also insisted that India should develop a few pacers in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. He went on to add that pacers like Mayank Yadav, Prince Yadav and Ashok Sharma are good enough to do well for India in the near future.
“I recently interacted with a few fans, who were genuinely worried about India’s bowling if Bumrah isn’t there. If so many fans are observing it, that means it’s a fact. So this Zimbabwe series is crucial for India to develop a few pacers. Mayank Yadav aside, Prince Yadav was also impressive. Ashok Sharma was just average even though he generated high speeds,” he concluded.
