Indian speedster Mohammed Shami has defended his teammate Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma, as the couple has been frequently visiting spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj in Vrindavan.
For the unversed, Kohli was last seen in Vrindavan in July 2026 along with his wife. However, his frequent visits didn’t go down well with many fans in the cricketing fraternity as they questioned the couple.
Speaking to Times Now Navbharat in an exclusive interaction, Shami has come out in strong support of his colleague Kohli, stating that no one should have any problem, adding that the batter has been passionate about it.
“Acchi cheez hai. Yeh achanak nahi hai. Woh bohot passionate hai aur apni cheezo ke kiye particular hai aur time deta hai. Jahan tak Maharaj ki baat hai, mujhe nahi lagta kisiko kuch point out karne ki zaroorat hai. Agar jodi hai aur karte hai toh kya dikkat hai kisiko? Mujhe samajh nahi aata (It is a good thing. This is not all of a sudden. He is very passionate and is particular about his things, and gives time. As far as Maharaj (visits) is concerned, I don’t think there is a need for anything to point out anything. If they are a couple and do this, what problem does anyone have? I don’t understand.” Shami said in an interview with Times Now Navbharat.
Virat Kohli’s next series is the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies in September 2026. The first ODI will be played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
In the just-concluded India’s recent three-match ODI tour of England, Kohli accumulated 144 runs across three innings at an average of 48.00 and a strike rate of 109.09, with a highest score of 74. Kohli and Shami were last seen playing together in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand in Dubai.
