This year, India will tour New Zealand in all formats from October to November. The tour will feature five T20Is, five ODIs, and two Tests. The Test matches are important for both sides in terms of World Test Championship (WTC 2027) final qualification.
The T20I series will be played initially, from October 22 to November 1. The first T20I will take place on October 22 in Christchurch, followed by the second on October 24 at the same venue, the third on October 27 in Wellington, the fourth on October 30 in Auckland, and the fifth on November 1 in Hamilton.
Today, we will check out the three areas of concern for Team India in the New Zealand T20I series.
Here are the 3 areas of concern for Team India ahead of the NZ vs. IND T20I series:
3. Poor fielding
Indian fielders’ poor fielding and dropped catches remain a huge concern for the Men in Blue side. Even in the ongoing West Indies T20Is, fielders have dropped catches and erred in fielding in crucial moments. They will be facing New Zealand, which has set new standards in fielding and catching and has dangerous batters in their lineup. If India errs in fielding against New Zealand or drops one of their star batters, the team could be in big trouble.
2. Facing New Zealand pacers in their own conditions
New Zealand pacers and even spinners will be bowling in their familiar conditions. The likes of Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Jacob Duffy, Kyle Jamieson, and Adam Milne are sure to take advantage of seam pitches and swinging conditions, and Indian batters will find it difficult. Most Indian batters are used to flat pitches or surfaces where the bat wins over the ball. However, they will have to adapt well to New Zealand conditions, where cold conditions help swing and seam more.
1. Bowling combination and death over issues
Throughout the New Zealand T20I series, a lot of attention will be paid to India’s bowling combination and capacity to carry out plans under duress. The team must choose bowlers who are appropriate for the conditions in New Zealand while striking the correct mix between pace and spin. It will be especially crucial to control runs during the powerplay, apply pressure in the middle overs, and execute precise yorkers at the end. Instead of depending on predictable variations, bowlers must also quickly adjust to various batters and match circumstances.
