Virat Kohli should be Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's idol: Harbhajan Singh

Former Indian spinner and commentator Harbhajan Singh advised the Indian teen batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to follow in Virat Kohli’s footsteps and be on the right track in his career.

After helping India win the U19 World Cup with a Player of the Tournament performance, Sooryavanshi dominated IPL 2026, scoring 776 runs at a strike rate of over 237 to claim the Orange Cap.

Sooryavanshi’s performances earned him a fast-tracked T20I debut against England in July 2026. Speaking on Prakhar Gupta’s YouTube channel, the former spinner asserted that Sooryavanshi needs to channelise his energy like Kohli from a young age.

“The way Virat channelized his energy from a young age, Virat should be Sooryavanshi’s idol. He should look up to guys like Kohli, Tendulkar, Dravid, and Kumble. They all channeled their energy only into cricket and did not get distracted by other things. Understanding your priorities is important, and for Sooryavanshi to reach the level his talent warrants, he must be clear in his priorities,” Harbhajan said on Prakhar Gupta’s YouTube channel.

Further, Harbhajan heaped praise on Sooryavanshi, describing the youngster as an exceptional talent with immense potential. He added that he was excited to follow the youngster’s career and believed Sooryavanshi had all the attributes needed to succeed, provided he makes the most of his talent.

“He’s (Sooryavanshi) unbelievable and is someone I am excited to watch through his career. If he doesn’t justify his talent, then he must have done something wrong. He has what Tendulkar had in his teens. It is still early, but I’ve not seen such hitting ability at such a young age. The clarity in his vision at this age is unbelievable,” said Harbhajan.
