Ex-England teammates Stuart Broad and Jos Buttler ranked their picks of top 10 Test batters on their podcast. Their amazing list consists of three Indian stars as well.

Modern-era Indian star Virat Kohli was placed at no. 10, for his 9230 runs at an average of 46.85 with 30 hundreds and 31 fifties, in 123 Tests. Kohli retired from Tests in 2025. At no.9, Rahul Dravid was picked. The Indian legend amassed 13288 runs from 164 Tests at an average of 52.31 with 36 hundreds and 63 fifties.

Broad and Buttler then chose the South African duo of AB de Villiers and Jacques Kallis at number eight and seven, respectively. De Villiers scored 8765 runs from 114 games at an average of 50.66 with 22 hundreds and 46 fifties.

On the other hand, Kallis accumulated 13289 runs from 166 matches at an average of 55.37 with 45 hundreds and 58 fifties. 

Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara came in at no.6, for scoring 12400 runs from 134 games at an average of 57.40 with 38 centuries and 52 fifties. Ricky Ponting of Australia was picked at no.5, having scored 13378 runs from 168 matches at an average of 51.85 with 41 tons and 62 fifties.

On the other hand, current England great Joe Root, with 14278 runs at an average of 50.45 with 41 hundreds and 69 half-centuries, came in at no.4.

The top three consisted of Steve Smith, Brian Lara and legend Sachin Tendulkar. Third is Smith with 10920 runs in 125 matches, with an average of 56.00 and 37 tons. Second is Lara with 11953 runs, with an average of 52.88 and 34 hundreds. The first position goes to Tendulkar. He holds the record of being the highest scorer in the format with 15921 runs in 200 matches with an average of 53.78.
