On Sunday, September 20, the West Indies Cricket Board announced their white-ball squads for their tour of India. Notably, the white-ball series will commence on Sunday, September 27 in Trivandrum.
Delving into the details, John Campbell, who missed the last two ODIs against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury, has returned. On the other hand, Shimron Hetmyer has been included in the T20I squad after his injury recovery.
Kamil Pooran received his maiden T20I call-up while Quentin Sampson has also been included. All-rounder Jason Holder has been rested for the series. West Indies Head coach Daren Sammy has opened up on the squad selection.
“We are looking to build on the momentum from our series win against Sri Lanka, with the long-term goal of developing a strong core of players ahead of the next T20 World Cup,” Sammy said.
“The challenge of playing against the World Champions at home will provide valuable preparation, allowing us to continue improving and developing both individually and as a collective unit.”
Ackeem Auguste has been ruled out as he continues his rehabilitation following his recent surgery in August. Jewel Andrew has replaced Auguste in the ODI squad. Hetmyer, who featured in the final two ODIs against New Zealand, has been permitted an extended recovery period during the ODI tour.
