The Indian team has begun its preparation for the ICC World Cup 2027 tournament. The 2023 World Cup finalists had an amazing run in the tournament, winning every game except the summit clash. Since then, India won the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
However, there are a few areas in which the Indian team needs improvement if they want to remain favorites for lifting the World Cup trophy, which they last won in 2011 at home. Today, we take a look at 3 areas India must improve before the T20 World Cup 2027.
Here are the 3 areas India must improve before the 2027 World Cup:
3. Death overs bowling
The recent ODI series between India and the West Indies was a high-scoring one, with scores of over 300 easily scored. The second ODI saw India conceding 405 runs, and the third match saw India failing to defend 350 runs. India’s death-overs bowling was a huge concern, and the Gautam Gambhir-led team management and coach Morne Morkel will want to work hard on the same, bringing in some experience in the bowling unit.
2. Catching and fielding
Indian fielding standards have dropped significantly, especially their catching. Since the Asia Cup 2025, Indian fielders have dropped some huge catches that have led to opponent batters getting lives and going on to make huge scores. Indian fielding coach needs to make sure the fielding levels are top-notch and catching is flawless as they face tough competition from Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, who field brilliantly and catch outstandingly well.
1. Middle order woes
India has an enviable top three in their ODI batting order, with openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill giving them flying starts. They are followed by legend Virat Kohli, who ensures India chases well or posts a huge total by anchoring at the other end. However, since these three do the majority of the scoring, the middle order gets very little chance to showcase their wares. KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, and co. will have to be ready to perform in scenarios where India are 2/2 or 3/2 inside the first 10 overs.
