ODI World Cup 2027: 3 Indian players who could miss out on the final 15-member squad

ODI World Cup 2027: 3 Indian players who could miss out on the final 15-member squad

The Indian team is currently in a bit of an experimental phase with their ODI squad as they prepare for the final leg of their 50-over format schedule ahead of the ICC World Cup 2027. The ICC event will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia from November 2.

There are several contenders for one spot in the Indian ODI squad; hence, there are chances that there will be some players who might be left out of the final 15-member squad for the ICC World Cup event. Hence, today, we will see 3 players who might miss out on the flight for the ICC event in 2027.

Here are the 3 Indian players who could miss out on the final 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup 2027:

3. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja recently made his India ODI comeback in the West Indies, having last played the format in January this year. Jadeja managed two wickets in the two ODIs against the Windies but was picked for the upcoming New Zealand ODIs. This might be the end for Jadeja’s ODI career, as India might not pick more than three spinners for the ICC World Cup in South Africa, and Axar Patel and Naman Dhir are likely to be the spin all-rounders.

2. Gurnoor Brar

Given that the majority of India’s games are to be played in South Africa, India is expected to fill their squad with pace bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, and Mohammed Siraj are likely to make the cut. Then there will be Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy as pace all-rounders. Gurnoor Brar will be competing for one vacant pacer spot with Harshit Rana, who is slightly ahead due to his batting skills. Brar has shown speed in his bowling, but his chances might be less if Harshit Rana gains full fitness and shows a bit of form.

1. Ruturaj Gaikwad

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will be the first-choice openers for India, and there can be only one more backup opener, and Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal can be picked. While Jaiswal is still waiting for a consistent run in the Indian XI, Gaikwad recently played in the West Indies ODI series, but at no. 4 spot. Shreyas Iyer will return to reclaim his spot at no. 4, and this will leave Gaikwad vying for the backup opening slot and might be left out for Jaiswal, who has done well in the opportunities he has gotten.
